THE NADAS RE-RECORD SONG TO SUPPORT VICTIMS OF HAITIAN EARTHQUAKE 7,164
ALL PROCEEDS TO GO TO Haitian Earthquake Relief.
(LOS ANGELES, CA) — Des Moines-based folk-country rock band The Nadas have joined the growing legion of artists and celebrities who are putting any support that they can towards the relief funds for the Haitian Earthquake victims and survivors.
The bands new album, Almanac, is set for release on March 16th through Authentic Records and included on this unique album is a poignant song called “Wrecking Ball”. Eerily, the lyrics reflect much of what is happening right now with the victims and rescue workers after the devastating earthquake struck Haiti earlier this week. “If we stand together….” sings frontman Mike Butterworth. “All we really want is to stand united. All we really need is to just hold on, And we’ll withstand colliding with this human wrecking ball…If I could take away the things that bring you pain; if I could make the sun shine through the pouring rain.”
Moved by the images coming from the devastated country, the band was determined to help in any way possible. Spontaneously, the band entered their studio this morning to re-work a new, live version of “Wrecking Ball.” It was all streamed live for their fans to watch and experience as they recorded as well. The new version of “Wrecking Ball” will be available through the bands website, starting today, with all proceeds being donated directly to relief funds: including http://www.haitipartners.org/. The song will be priced at $1.00 and there is an option for additional voluntary contributions.
Recording live for an audience is nothing new to The Nadas. The band set out last January to record their seventh LP, Almanac. But this time, it would be different. They would record the entire process virtually live. The rules were simple: Mike Butterworth and the band would write, record and release one song a month throughout 2009. Much like this morning’s session, every step of the album’s recording process was streamed live on the band’s website. Having unprecedented access to the creative process fans were allowed to become an integral part of the album. Although the creative work-load became a bit stressful at times, moving from inspiration to completion in thirty days, co-founder Walsmith recalls, “It was a risk, but our die-hard fans were game. They came along for the ride.”
The Nadas are singers/guitarists Mike Butterworth and Jason Walsmith, bassist Jon Locker, drummer Jason Smith, and violinist Becca Smith. Over the last sixteen years, they have sold more than 125,000 albums through their own Authentic Records. Their list of critically acclaimed albums includes 2003’s Transceiver and 2005’s Listen Through The Static, both produced by Todd and Toby Pipes of Deep Blue Something, as well as 2007’s The Ghosts Inside These Halls.
