80/35 Music Festival - Feels Like Home to Me.

June 29th, 2009 · No Comments

We were so sad to miss the first year of this incredible, revolutionary, music festival in Des Moines. Not this year, we are honored to be playing on Friday July 3rd. There is so much energy and excitement surrounding this festival. Hope we see you there.

Rain, rain, go away…

June 19th, 2009 · 15 Comments

Hello, hello everyone! LB here to let you know that if by some small chance the weather of Des Moines decides to go from sunny skies to torrential downpour, the rain location for tonight’s Simon Estes show has changed from the Hotel Fort Des Moines to People’s on court. Again, we’re 99.9% sure the show will be happening on the river, but if by chance rain comes, the show will go on at People’s Court.

Wish I could be there! Enjoy and have fun!

Hugs and long distance envy,
LB

The Nadas on the River - POSTER

June 8th, 2009 · No Comments

Here is a green way of hanging up posters. (I am patting myself on my back as I write this) I’ll attach a Jpeg of our Poster for this show that our good pal linderbug designed. You “right” or “control” click it and copy or save it to your hard drive. Then you can attach it to emails, post it on your facebook page, twitter the hell out of it, or what ever other way you can think of to virtually “hang” it. Think of all of the trees we are saving.

*disclaimer. . . . we did print a couple hundred of these the old fashioned way and are planning on hanging them. Sorry, i guess our hands are a little dirty.

Weekly Blah Blah #60809

June 8th, 2009 · No Comments

Hello gang,

It’s been awhile since I have written to you. (this is Mike btw) We have some fun things coming up which makes this an easy Blah Blah to write so I will take it! If you are in a hurry I bolded the main points for your skimming pleasure. WARNING: Skimming may cause you to miss the funny.

#1- The Nadas Annual Show on the River- at Simon Estes Amphitheater

I will now answer the 5 - W’s.

Who: The Nadas with special guest Alex Dezen from the Damnwells
What: Annual summer kick-off show on the river
When: Friday, June 19th doors at 7 PM
Where: Simon Estes Amphitheater in Des Moines
Why: We love playing this venue!
…and sometimes How:…..much: $15 in advance $20 day of show so go to www.iowatix.com and get those tickets early to save a couple of bucks. Age 12 and under are FREE. Rain location is Hotel Fort Des Moines Grand Ballroom.

#2 Parkersburg Relief

Our friends and label mates Fat Andy are doing a wonderful thing and are raising money to help the victims of the Parkersburg Disaster in remembrance of the one year anniversary of the tornado. They wrote a great tune and are donating 100% of the profits to the Parkersburg Memorial Park Fund. You can download “Parkersburg” and donate anywhere from $5-5000 to the park. Go to Authentic Records online to get the song and make a donation. I have in no way been cleared to do this but if you donate $5000 let’s say we will name the swing set or other park implement after you. Just think, generations of kids could play on the John T. Blanchard Swing set or the Amy F. Prichard Outhouse.

#3 Washington DC

Jason and I are heading to DC with the Greater Des Moines Partnership and playing The Red and Black at 1212 H St. NE at 10 PM on Thursday 6-11. Come on out if you can. If you tell the door guy you are with the Des Moines Group (which all of you are if only by way of our connection to each other) you can save the $10 and use it to by J and I a beer. :)

#4 Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

We are so proud that the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is honoring us with a Nadas Exhibit this summer. If you are in Okoboji any time you can check out the museum or www.iowarockandroll.com for more info. We aren’t eligible for induction until 2018 but keep your fingers crossed. If we do get inducted I will make sure our nurses wheel us out, remove our oxygen tubes, make sure we have a fresh colostomy bag, and 1/2 our medication for the big show. We play the 4th of July though this year right by the IRRHF (this is my own abbreviation not theirs) so why not check it out then? We should be free standing and poop bag free for this one.

So, that is all for this week. Muchas Gracias.

QOTW: Is IRRHF an abbreviation or an acronym? No really which is it?

Weekly Blah Blah #52109

May 21st, 2009 · 10 Comments

Hello Nadas Friends - Jason Here. I know it seems like things have been quiet here at Nada Camp. Oh. . . . but they have not. We are busy working on our Almanac Project (You’ve heard enough about that one) and getting our summer tour buttoned up. We still have a few shows to finalize and we will be getting them on the website. Pretty much the whole summer is booked. There are still a few openings for off night openings if you want mike and I to come do a living room show in some far off city we never make it to, but that is a subject for another day.

The big news is we have finalized our annual Nadas on the River show. We will be playing Friday June 19th at Simon Estes Amphitheater. Tickets are available here. . . .http://www.iowatix.com/WebSales/Pages/TicketSearchCriteria.aspx?og=499fbd24-6b6b-49dc-bc1d-a7cd293c1945&evtinfo=15911~498b04f8-e002-4fbb-9677-203040ef8ce4& more info about other Simon Estes Shows is available here. . . . http://www.sapresents.com Rumor has it that Alex Dezen of the Damnwells is opening the show, but that’s only a rumor, so don’t tell anyone . . . . yet.

Also we are excited to announce that we were invited to do a set for the 80/35 music festival in Des Moines. This is an incredible festival and we are honored to be a part of it. more info here. http://www.80-35.com

This weekend we just have one show to announce. We are traveling up to Madison to play with our friends The Mighty Short Bus. We are playing a place called Skatz, I’m a little worried because it says sports bar and night club but we’ll give it a try.

One more thing. . . . As many of you know we have a weekly songwriter night at our neighborhood tavern. It is called Nada Nother Sunday. It takes place at Ak O’Connner’s in Beaverdale. On any given sunday you can see either Mike or I or another Authentic Artist or a friend of ours from around the country on their way through town. It is generally a great was to spend a sunday night. People are always asking for a schedule and up until now there was no way to tell what was going on. So today I started a facebook page. check it out http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nada-Nother-Sunday/78622328354?ref=mf and join us some sunday.

Qotw - Where is your favorite place to keep track of our band? Multiple Choice. . .

A - Weekly Email
B - Myspace
C- Facebook
D- Twitter
E- Blog
F- Live

Templeton Rye - Wax Cylinder Recording

May 11th, 2009 · 2 Comments

If you haven’t heard, this week’s Authentic Records’s Ear Snack, it is a wax cylinder recording of Templeton Rye recorded by Jason with the help of Martin Fisher on a vintage Thomas Edison wax cylinder recording machine at the Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, TN last February. Below is a description from Martin as to how it was made:

All of the equipment in the record chain is original and was available to the consumer in it’s day.  The recording machine is an “Edison Triumph Model B” from around the 1906 era with a rebuilt New Edison “floating diaphragm” Recorder head from 1902 or later.  I’ve not tried to identify or date the recording horn yet but it is original although repainted by a former owner.  The recorder head has been refurbished with the addition of a few personal modifications that seem to have improved the quality of the recording considerably.

The cylinders were transferred using a Stanton 500 AL cartridge with a self modified stylus assembly attached to a self built four foot tone arm.  The signal was fed through a flat “unequalized” preamplifier directly into a Delta 44 recording interface on my PC.  The signal was sampled at 96 khz/24 bit into Sound Forge software.  Two duplicate files were rendered.  One was left alone and the other was declicked by isolating the problem spots and utilizing the  declick software bundled with Sound Forge &/or manual redrawing of the waveform.  Both files were then converted to 44.1 khz/16 bit and the pitch and overall volume was adjusted with fades added at the head and tail.  No equalization or sonic filtering was applied to any of the files at any time.  With the exception of declicking on the quieter cylinder file, what you hear is what’s on the cylinder.

And here’s a photo of what the machine looked like:

It’s only available for FREE through tomorrow, May 12 so go get it while you can and enjoy!
