Hey all. Jason here, coming to you from our nation’s capital city. I am literally typing this with my thumbs while walking between monuments. Don’t worry, I take a moment every few steps to soak in the grandeur of it all. See pic of me and founding father Thomas Jefferson. I just visited the Martin Luther king memorial for the first time. If you thought his words moved you when read from the printed page, you should feel the power when they are larger than life and carved in stone. It amazes me how the things he said 50 years ago are so appropriate for issues we still face today.

“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”

I wish that all Americans could visit this city and be inspired by the foundations of our country.

Anyway…Rock and Roll? We play tonight and a few more times on the east coast this week. You can find information and buy tickets (tonight’s DC show is sponsored by the greater Des Moines partnership and is therefore free) at this link. — Tickets are not required but they are recommended. Space is very limited at these living room shows so we cannot guarantee a spot unless you get tickets in advance.

We are so happy to be out rockin the rails again. We will be tweeting and posting to Facebook as we go for those of you who can’t hop aboard.

Love and rail travel,
The Nadas.

What is your favorite thing to see in the capital city?

Hey Nadas fans! We have an idea that we are really excited to share with you. Intrigued? Read on…

These days many small enterprises face a difficult and uncertain future. The Nadas are no different. Travel costs keep rising, performance venues facing increasing costs reduce their gig guarantees, and Mike stopped dying his hair. The fact of the matter is, a $15 ticket isn’t all that much, but when it costs $50 for a babysitter to watch your bright eyed & bushy tailed kids, $30 for a cab, and a couple of drinks a choice has to be made, to Nada or not to Nada.

As a band, the community we have built over the last 19 years has really been what’s made it possible for us to be us. Our pre-show parties have been a blast. Connecting with you all via social media has greatly, and gladly, dictated much of what we do (Almanac, anyone?).

So, in the name of community and what we believe is your desire to keep this crazy thing going, we want to invite you into The Nadas Inner Circle. “What the heck is that,” you ask? Well, read on…again…

Our Inner Circle is a whole new way of connecting with you, our fan base—and giving you the opportunity to connect with us. It’s really simple! Instead of just buying CDs and show tickets that are available to you only once in a while, you can now subscribe to The Nadas and become part of our Inner Circle.

In return, we will give you a supply of whatever we’re working on, at the minimum, once a month (we think it will be twice a month or even occasionally more, but we always like to under-promise and over-deliver). It will include things like exclusive previews of new songs, exclusive live streaming, free downloads of archived live shows, and select special pre-parties. It might include a video lesson on photography from Jason, ticket deals from Tikly, a cooking lesson from Mike and so on. We really don’t know what this whole experiment could evolve into. What we do know is, this is going to be so much fun!

We want you to have an insider’s view of what it is really like to scratch a living as a musician these days. By taking out a monthly subscription to this experiment, you’ll help guarantee that we, The Nadas, will be kicking, screaming—and singing—our way around the US and beyond, now and in the future. All we need from you is to join our Inner Circle.

As we often do at house concerts, we are approaching this opportunity as a chance to pass the hat. When you join, name your amount. $1, $5, $10, $15, $50, $100…one billion dollars…each month—whatever trips your trigger. And of course, you can cancel at any time. We feel so incredibly lucky to be able to do what we do and hopefully be a positive part of your life. Help us keep rockin’ in the free world by subscribing to our Inner Circle today!

Over the months and years, we hope to be as informative as the New York Times, as entertaining as Netflix, and as invigorating as that cup of coffee you may choose to forego to fund this subscription.

Or as Mike likes to say, “We’ll just try not to suck!”

Tell your friends, tell your mom, and you’ll be cooking with Butterworth in no time!

Whether you decide to join or not, we are very thankful for all the support you’ve given us these past 19 years. As a token of our appreciation, please click here to download our newest song.

We look forward to seeing you at the next show in your town.

Jason & Mike

P.S. Send us your ideas of what you want—we might just be crazy enough to make all your dreams come true!

Hey gang it’s Mike,

Sorry that this blah blah is pointed geographically towards a small subsection of the list but I gots to do what I gots to do.  Let’s do this in the form of an infomercial:

Do you live in Des Moines, Minneapolis, or Chicago?!!  Are you looking for something to do this Thursday, Friday, or Saturday?!!  Are you tired all the time, have blotchy skin, can’t get your clothes clean enough, need a sharper knife, looking to lose weight, needing to edge your lawn, throwing out too many leftovers, sick of picking up your dogs do, unable to keep your plants watered, out of space in your closet, or need a better bra?!!!

Then come on down to a Nadas show this weekend and cure what ails ya!!  We will slice and dice and lift up your bosom!!  Our patented freeze-dried harmonies will leave you tingly and fresh!!!

OK enough of that.  I watch too much TV.

For real though we have three acoustic (but still rockin’) shows this week with a friend and musical influence of ours Dan Navarro.  Dan is half of the duo Lowen and Navarro www.lownav.com/  They wrote the song “We Belong” that Pat Benetar made popular but have piles of other amazing tunes and Dan is really funny.

Des Moines folks you can save a bunch of ticket fees by going straight to the Temple box office.

QOTW:  What have you bought off an infomercial that you immediately regretted upon its arrival.  For me it was The Gazelle work out machine.

Hello friends, fans and family.

Jason here to bring you a not-so-weekly email. We have had a busy spring of music conferences, festivals, meetings and workshops. Just the thing to recharge and reenergize after the winter doldrums. Last week was SXSW in Austin, Texas. We have been going to this event for over a decade. It is the one week out of the year where nearly everyone even peripherally related to the music business all converge in the same place at the same time. Over 1500 official showcases and at least twice as many unofficial showcases happen literally all over town. Every music venue, coffee shop, taco trailer, hardware store, art gallery, lawn care service and ice cream truck had bands showcasing. Coincidentally, there are just as many street food vendors all over the city as well. You name it, you can find it. The energy of the place is infectious. Because of this energy we have written a couple of new songs and are starting to talk about a new record. Will give you more details as they develop.

With that in mind we are ready to get back to work. During the off-season, we have been doing a lot of acoustic duo shows. Some corporate events, some festivals, and a bunch of house concerts. WE LOVE HOUSE CONCERTS. In fact, we are just starting to book another round of Rock the Rails house concerts around the country, so stay tuned for that. Email thenadas@thenadas.com if you are interested.

Another one of the conferences we attended was Folk Alliance International in Memphis, TN. We did a few showcases with a very talented guy named Dan Navarro of the legendary Lowen and Navarro. We have been fans of Dan’s and L & N for many years. In many ways, we followed in their footsteps as a band with two songwriters and singers. We are excited to announce we will be doing an acoustic mini tour with Dan at the end of the month. Here are the details:
